These portraits are created with a special, slow drying acrylic paint that allows the artist to achieve the same the same soft blended effects as with oil paints while avoiding the 6 month drying time of oils. They are called "Open" acrylics because they stay workable, or "open" for a much longer time than regular acrylics.

I strive to create portraits with an extremely high level of realism while also incorporating subtle artistic effects and techniques which enhance the overall work making it more than just an accurate likeness. I want the viewer to have an emotional reaction to the work, to experience the spirit and personality of each animal.
